North Star

Pilothouse

$1,350,000 CAD

Vancouver, BC

Designed by renowned naval architect Ed Monk Jr. and built in Washington State, this well-conceived, well-constructed 73' North Star Pilothouse is ideally suited for Pacific Northwest cruising. Wonderfully maintained and updated, she’s ready for local adventures or extended passages. From any angle, Komagata is a beautiful yacht – arguably one of Monk’s finest designs. Her classic lines and robust profile are matched by a spacious, flowing layout and expansive flybridge, making her supremely comfortable on board. Her design and build provide safety, comfort, and confidence in a heavy seaway. Komagata has been cruised locally by the previous owners, and extensively up and down the BC and Alaska coasts by the current owners. She has been extremely well-maintained and updated, and will satisfy even the most discerning yacht buyers!

Throughout Komagata

From a dock or a tender, step to Komagata's swim platform, and enter the cockpit through either the port or starboard transom gate.

The cockpit is covered, and fully enclosed for foul weather protection. The enclosure panels are removable for summer cruising.

From the cockpit, walk forward along the covered side decks - either port or starboard. These are broad, and guided by a stainless railing for crew safety, security, and confidence. And they are covered for sun and rain protection. The covered overhang also protects the salon windows from rain, and preserves a clear view through the salon and galley windows during rainy weather.

Enter the salon forward from the cockpit. The space is clean and bright, comfortable and well appointed. Traffic flows intuitively up to the adjacent full beam galley, and open pilothouse.

From the galley, step up to the flybridge, upper helm, and boat deck areas.  This space is massive, yet with intimate seating for a small (or not-so-small!) party.

Aft of the flybridge lounge area is the boat deck with room for the tender and water toys, as well as the summer galley with BBQ, refrigeration, and storage lockers.

Back down to Komagata's pilothouse, then down to the accommodations area with four cabins and four heads, detailed in the next section.

  • hand finished cherry cabinetry and joinery in satin varnished cherry throughout
  • new reclaimed teak floors throughout the main deck, with new carpet in the accommodations
  • multi-zone hydronic heat throughout
  • reverse cycle heat and air conditioning throughout
  • LED lighting with updated Lutron controls, 2019, controlled by your smartphone
  • new Nest climate controls
  • new Wave WiFi, Starlink, and Sonos throughout

Unless otherwise noted, "new" or "recent" in these descriptions refer to owner upgrades since 2018.

Accommodations

The accommodations area is down broad (read: safe) steps from the pilothouse. There is a foyer leading forward to each stateroom, plus a dedicated laundry locker. Each stateroom has climate controls.

The PRIMARY (OWNER'S) STATEROOM is located aft of the foyer, and is midships of the vessel, utilizing the full beam, and accommodates a walk-around bed with night stands, built in settee to port, and entertainment cabinet. Storage throughout including cedar lined hanging locker, cabinetry, and drawers built in under the bed and settee.

  • reading lights
  • two stainless opening portlights for fresh air and natural light
  • custom mattress

The Owners' Ensuite Head with Vacuflush marine toilet, vanity with granite counter top, storage in drawers and lockers, mirrored medicine cabinet, and large shower stall.

  • Toto Washlet programmable electronic bidet with heated seat

The GUEST VIP STATEROOM is quite generous in size, and is located forward on the port side with a walk-around queen bed, custom innerspring mattress, night stands with reading lights.

  • opening overhead hatch with screen and privacy shade
  • cedar lined locker

The GUEST VIP ENSUITE HEAD features a cherry wood vanity with black Corian counter top, Kohler under mount sink, storage, Vacuflush marine toilet, large separate shower stall.

The third cabin is the PORT GUEST STATEROOM, with generous upper and lower bunks, dressing mirror, storage in numerous drawers and a cedar lined locker, and an entertainment system.

Directly across is the GUEST / DAY HEAD, utilized by the port stateroom, or day guests. This arrangement eliminates the need for day guests to enter a stateroom to access the head. Cherry vanity with Kohler undermount basin, Corian counter top, storage, opening portlight with screen, Vacuflush marine toilet.

The FORWARD STATEROOM can be a guest or crew area. It has three bunks, each with reading lights, and plenty of storage in eight drawers and a cedar lined closet.  This space is currently used as a pantry and general storage area for long term cruises, as the current owners do not need this area for accommodations.

The FORWARD GUEST / CREW HEAD has a cherry vanity, Corian counter top, mirrored medicine cabinet, Vacuflush marine toilet, storage, and a dedicated shower stall.

The LAUNDRY is in a dedicated locker off the accommodations foyer with a new Miele washer and dryer.

Salon

There is a large sliding glass door, framed in beefy stainless steel, between the salon and the cockpit.

The salon is bright and spacious, warm and inviting, with beautiful reclaimed teak flooring (new) and large windows all around.

  • new dining table, with 60 lb base, keeping it safe and sturdy in a seaway
  • large sofa to port, with new upholstery. This lush piece is all along the port side of the salon, with curved ends, and is super comfortable
  • new high res projection TV with retractable screen to starboard
  • built in art nook and bookshelf
Galley

This is a refined chef's galley with plenty of storage, abundant work space, and all the appliances, including quite impressive refrigeration. It is the full beam of the yacht, just forward of the salon and integral to the pilothouse.

  • granite counter tops
  • new induction stove with oven brand
  • new refrigeration by Sub Zero: separate refrigerator and freezer, two separate refrigerator drawers, Sub Zero ice maker
  • new VinoTemp wine fridge
  • Kohler instant hot water
  • GE Profile dishwasher
  • GE garbage disposal
  • new microwave oven with exhaust vent over the stove top. Surprisingly, the original galley did not have an exhaust vent. This new unit was quite tricky to source and install as the cabinetry around the space required a side exhaust vent. The new unit has as subdued profile, and solves the problem. It is worth noting.
Pilothouse and Lower Helm

The pilothouse is the operational centre of the yacht. It too is the full beam, with port and starboard doors to the side decks for operator viewing, and safe guest and crew maneuvering.

Like most pilothouses, Komagata's design offers incredible viewing at all angles, which not only boosts the operator's confidence while in close quarters, but also gives wonderful vistas to guests at the pilothouse dining table and settee. The pilothouse settee is an envied space that can accomodate 4 to join the operator while underway, for intimate morning coffee, or for a couple's cruise planning. The Stidd helm seat with controls and instruments close at hand, can swivel and be raised or lowered to join guests at the settee. Upholstered in black leather.
