Presenting Loon, a finely crafted and cherished 2009 Grand Banks 47 Classic.
She has been properly serviced, nicely updated, and meticulously maintained since new. Conceived by designers and builders whose goal it was to modernize a renowned classic. Loon offers rock-solid reliability, balanced by graceful lines and a gracious interior.
Remarkably efficient throughout her speed range, the GB 47 CL is capable of sustained cruising at over 20 knots to cover miles quickly, expanding your cruising horizons when desired. The design offers the best of both worlds either as a leisurely 8 knot trawler, or as a 20+ knot sport cruiser, or anywhere in between, to suit your own cruising style.
The GB 47 CL looks and feels bigger, brighter, and roomier than other boats in her class. Her accommodations take advantage of every inch, affording a luxury of space and style.
The generous salon, cockpit, and flybridge can easily handle quite a crowd for entertaining, and the rare three stateroom / two head layout can comfortably accommodate six owners and guests overnight.
Quality, performance, sophistication, elegance, reliability, comfort; all synonymous with this and every legendary Grand Banks Yacht.
The Classic design features the same hull form as the Europa. The deck configuration differs to allow the grand aft stateroom, but GB’s signature wide side decks for safety and security are still there. The salon, lower helm station and galley all on the main level, just above the water line, giving the yacht a very livable layout, an open feel, and outstanding ocean views at anchor and underway, both for the guests on board, and importantly, safe sight lines for the lower helm operator, building confidence.
Board from the dock or from the tender to a solid and secure swim platform, then up two well placed steps to the cockpit, or board to the side decks through the opening railings port and starboard.
Walk forward port and starboard to the side decks, on the same level, to the foredeck.
On the port side of the trunk cabin, climb a couple of steps up, then enter the yacht’s salon through a full size door, or continue up to the flybridge.
The spacious salon is midships, integrated to the galley forward to port, with the lower helm station opposite to starboard.
Aft of the salon, step down to the grand master stateroom with private ensuite head and shower. And, forward of the salon, between the galley and lower helm, step down to the two guest cabins and guest / day head.
In the true “tri-cabin” layout, sleeping accommodations are aft and forward. This arrangement separates owners and guests, giving privacy to each, with the living and lounging areas between.
All opening port lights have Hunter Douglas shades that are neatly recessed and tucked behind a valance. All have bug screens. All opening hatches have privacy shades and bug screens built into the headliner.
Moving aft down steps from the salon to the Master Stateroom. It is more than generous, being the the full beam of the boat. It is exquisitely finished in teak, with a centre line queen berth with reading lights and night stands. Storage all around in lockers, drawers and shelves. Forward to port is a spacious cedar lined closet.
Forward in this cabin, to starboard, is the owners’ Private Ensuite Head with a sizeable shower stall.
Moving forward of the salon, the VIP Guest Cabin is at the bow, also completely finished in teak. This is a V-berth, wth a plush insert. Storage in a hanging locker with drawers below the berth.
The Port Guest Cabin, just aft of the VIP cabin, with double berth, side table, and hanging locker and drawers, also finished in teak.
The Guest / Day Head is to starboard, across the hall from the guest cabin, and handy to the salon for day guests.
The salon is midships, and is a bright, warm, and inviting space, exquisitely finished in teak, with broad opening windows all around bringing in a tremendous amount of natural light and ventilation.
To starboard is the L-settee, newly upholstered (2020), with two matching teak GB chairs. More storage under the settee.
The centrepiece of the salon is a classic Grand Banks hi-lo teak table, with folding leaves. The table converts quite easily from a cocktail / coffee table to a dining table.
Forward of the settee is a teak bar cabinet and additional galley storage.
The galley layout is elegant and functional and features sumptuous black granite counter tops, an electric cooktop, and stainless steel sink. The fridge and freezer each have teak doors adding to the elegant, clean design. A remarkable amount of storage with custom drawers, cupboards, in-counter lockers, and a deep corner locker.
To starboard, opposite the galley, is the lower helm station with Stidd seat, a flip up teak step, storage under and around helm, and door to the starboard side decks.
The flybridge is accessed via gently sloped stairs from the truck cabin. It is an eminently comfortable space for operating, or entertaining, or lounging at anchor. The flybridge is fully enclosed with matching coverts for the seats, settees, table, and helm.
Three seats face forward, with the operator’s Stidd helm seat on the centreline with excellent access to the helm, engine controls, and navigation equipment, a second optional Stidd seat to starboard for the mate, and a bench seat to port, with more storage under.
There is an L-shaped settee aft and to starboard, wrapped around a varnished teak table, and with storage under. To port is a built-in storage locker with wet bar. Additional bench seat aft of the wet bar, again with storage under.
Board the boat from the dock to the side decks with the opening stainless railings, or from the swim platform and through the transom railing.
Signature Classic design with broad decks, trunk cabin, wide safe side decks to the foredeck, and gentle steps up to the flybridge. The decks are all clad in teak and are in very good condition, with no cupping, no separation, and no missing bungs.
covered cockpit and covered side decks, all teak clad, and all in very good condition, with relatively minor cupping on the foredeck and foredeck hatches.
Just aft of the flybridge, on top of the truck cabin, is the boat deck with tender and crane. The tender is secured on custom stainless steel chocks.
Wave WiFi and cell booster added in 2021

AC and DC power services the vessel through circuit breaker panels with appropriate voltage and ampere gauges.
AC power is provided by 240/120V 50Amp shore connection, by the generator set, or, for lighter loads, by a 3,000 Watt inverter, powered by the house bank of batteries.
AC power is distributed through a circuit breaker protected panel with switches to select the AC power input; either the fore or aft shore power cable, or generator or inverter power.
DC power is distributed through circuit breaker protected panels. There are two banks of batteries; the house bank for onboard systems, and a dedicated start bank for engine and genset starting; both with dedicated charging systems.
At sea, the batteries are charged by engine or generator driven alternators and while at a dock, by the inverters and chargers via shorepower.
The engine room is accessed via a ladder from a hatch beside the helm, or by lifting the flybridge stairway in the aft cockpit. The space is organized and thoughtfully designed with easy access to all mechanical equipment, generator, batteries. There is plenty of room for additional storage, spare parts and tools.
The twin Cummins QSC8.3 550 hp engines are turbo charged, after cooled, and are electronically controlled common rail fuel injected engines. These engines provide excellent fuel economy, and with quiet and smoke free performance. The superb engine room insulation, soft motor mounts and a shaft saver coupler contribute to a surprisingly quiet interior salon while underway
