Introduction

With her plumb bow and salty lines, this is a sought-after cruising yacht that requires little in the way of introduction. In production from 1996 to 2019, the Nordic Tug 42 is a seaworthy, heavily-built, hard-chine, semi-displacement yacht that comfortably cruises at 9 knots, using approximately 22.5 litres per hour.

Since 2014, Ancient Murrelet has been cruised extensively throughout BC and WA and has been enjoyed and cared for by a highly knowledgable and committed cruising couple, with many years of ocean voyaging experience.

The prop and rudder are protected by a deep keel. Stored on the hard each winter, and regularly serviced by Philbrooks Boat Yard, Ancient Murrelet is in stunning condition inside and out.

Details follow, but some particularly notable features include:

  • Water maker
  • Bow and stern thrusters
  • Stabilizers
  • Flybridge with full enclosure

And since these owners are retiring from boating, she will come fully found with tools, safety gear, spares, general cruising equipment, galleyware, linens, kayaks, and SUPs.

Throughout Ancient Murrelet

Board from a dock or tender to the swim platform, and through the transom door to the cockpit. There are steps up port and starboard to the side decks, a ladder to the boat deck and flybridge, and a door to the salon.

The door to the salon is broad, and when latched open, permits great flow from the cockpit through to the salon, and with the huge wrap-around windows, makes the space feel open and bright.

On the same level, just forward and to port, is the galley, while to starboard, steps down to the accommodations area, or steps up to the pilothouse.

The pilothouse has port and starboard doors to the side decks and foredeck.

Down steps from the salon is the accommodations area with a nav station to starboard, a guest cabin to port, a guest head opposite, and the owners’ cabin forward, with its own private ensuite.

Pilothouse

The pilothouse arrangement contributes to the Nordic Tug 42 being so well suited to cruising our waters: it is the operational centre of the yacht, somewhat separate from other areas, allowing the operator to safely focus on tasks at hand. It offers tremendous 360 degree visibility and the two side deck doors, each with screens, allow easy access outside and to the bow.

Of course, the operator hardly needs to be alone, and there is room for others to join in the pilothouse with a comfy settee for guest seating and a lovely teak table to enjoy early morning coffee as you get underway.
