Presenting Alekia, a finely crafted and cherished 2008 Grand Banks 47 Europa. She was purchased new to a local client and after only one year, he upgraded, and the current owner acquired her. She has been properly serviced, and nicely updated. Conceived by designers and builders whose goal it was to modernize a renowned classic. Alekia offers rock-solid reliability, balanced by graceful lines and a gracious interior.
Remarkably efficient throughout her speed range, the GB 47 EU is capable of sustained cruising at over 20 knots to cover miles quickly, and quietly, when desired. The design offers the best of both worlds either as a leisurely 8 knot trawler, or as a 20+ knot sport cruiser, or somewhere in between, to suit your own cruising style. Detailed performance data can be found towards the end of this brochure.
The generous salon, cockpit, and flybridge can easily handle quite a crowd for entertaining, and the two stateroom / two head layout can comfortably accommodate four owners and guests overnight.
Quality, performance, sophistication, elegance, reliability, comfort; all synonymous with this and every legendary Grand Banks Yacht.
The Europa design features the signature covered aft cockpit, and side decks. The salon, lower helm station and galley all on the main level, just above the water line, giving the yacht a very livable layout, an open feel, and outstanding ocean views at anchor and underway, both for the guests on board, and importantly, safe sight lines for the lower helm operator, building confidence.
Board from the dock or the tender to a solid and secure swim platform, then up two steps to the cockpit, or board to the side decks through the opening railings port and starboard.
Walk forward port and starboard to the side decks, on the same level, then up one step to the foredeck. Gently sloped stairs on the port side of the cockpit lead up to the boat deck and flybridge.
From the cockpit, enter the salon through large sliding door. Forward to port is the galley, with a thoughtful layout that offers surprisingly good storage and work spaces. The lower helm station is opposite the galley.
Between the galley and lower helm, descend four steps to the accommodations area with the guest cabin to starboard, guest and day head to port, and the huge master suite all the way forward
Down four steps from the salon area to the accommodations area. To starboard is the guest cabin with head and shower stall opposite to port, and the master stateroom is forward, with ensuite head and shower stall.
Master Stateroom
The owners’ cabin is forward, all finished in teak, and with a walk-around queen berth. Plenty of storage in numerous drawers, shelves and lockers, including a good-sized cedar-lined hanging locker, and drawers under the berth.
Owners Head
The spacious owners’ private head is ensuite to the stateroom, and features a sizeable shower stall.
Guest Cabin
The guest cabin is to starboard of the accommodations hallway and features two single berths, both with inner spring mattresses, and both with large storage drawers underneath.
Guest Head
Private guest head to port of the accommodations hallway, and across from the guest cabin.
To port of the salon is an L-shaped settee with storage underneath. To starboard is a straight settee, in lieu of two loose teak chairs. The starboard settee conveniently lifts up in four separate sections, revealing more storage, and the two outer sections of the settee separate, and can slide out from the wall to join the dining table.
The starboard settee is flanked by teak end tables; the forward one contains the large bar cabinet and has ample glass and bottle storage.
The centrepiece of the salon is a classic Grand Banks hi-lo teak table, with folding leaves. The table converts quite easily from a cocktail / coffee table to a dining table.
The L-shaped galley layout is elegant and functional and features sumptuous granite counter tops, an electric cooktop, and stainless steel sink. The fridge and freezer each have teak doors adding to the elegant, clean design. A remarkable amount of storage with drawers, cupboards, a slide out pantry, overhead lockers, and inventive inside corner storage racks.
To starboard, opposite the galley, is the lower helm station with Stidd seat, a flip up teak step, storage drawer under floor, and door to the starboard side decks.
The flybridge is accessed via gently sloped stairs from the cockpit, through a sliding hatch. It is an eminently comfortable space for operating or entertaining or lounging at anchor.
Three seats face forward, with the operator’s Stidd helm seat on the centreline with excellent access to the helm, engine controls, and navigation equipment, a second optional Stidd seat to starboard for the mate, and a bench seat to port, with storage under.
There is an L-shaped settee aft and to starboard, wrapped around a varnished teak table, and with storage under. To port is a built-in storage locker with wet bar. This port locker is designed to fit an optional ice maker or bar fridge. Additional bench seat aft of the wet bar, again with storage under.
Board the boat from the dock to swim platform and through the transom door, or to the side decks with the removable side steps and opening stainless railings.
Signature Europa design with covered cockpit and covered side decks, all teak clad, and all in very good condition, with relatively minor cupping on the foredeck and foredeck hatches.
Just aft of the flybridge lounging area is the boat deck with tender, crane, hatch to cockpit, and deck space. The tender is mounted on stainless steel chocks.
The primary tender was purchased new in 2010. It is a Novurania 400 DL, featuring console steering and controls, seating for five, storage lockers, integrated fuel tank, teak clad decks, a stainless steel grab railing.
This tender cruises at 20 knots, allowing you to venture far and wide from an anchorage, really explore your surroundings, visit a town, then return to the boat and wind down at the end of the day's excursions.
There is a near-new secondary tender included in the sale: It is a 2021 roll up Zodiac Cadet 230 Aero with a 2021 Honda 2.3 hp outboard. It stows neatly in the engine room.
The yachts’ original Raymarine system was replaced in 2016 with an all new Furuno NMEA 2000 TZT2 Time Zero Touch system.

AC and DC power services the vessel through circuit breaker panels with appropriate voltage and ampere gauges.
AC power is provided by 240/120V 50Amp shore connection, by the generator set, or, for lighter loads, by a 3,000 Watt inverter, powered by the house bank of batteries.
AC power is distributed through a circuit breaker protected panel with switches to select the AC power input; either the fore or aft shore power cable, or generator or inverter power.
DC power is distributed through circuit breaker protected panels. There are two banks of batteries; the house bank for onboard systems, and a dedicated start bank for engine and genset starting; both with dedicated charging systems.
At sea, the batteries are charged by engine or generator driven alternators and while at a dock, by the inverters and chargers via shorepower.
The engine room is accessed via a ladder from a hatch beside the helm, or by lifting the flybridge stairway in the aft cockpit. The space is organized and thoughtfully designed with easy access to all mechanical equipment, generator, batteries. There is plenty of room for additional storage, spare parts and tools.
The twin Cummins QSC8.3 500 hp engines are turbo charged, after cooled, and are electronically controlled common rail fuel injected engines. These engines provide excellent fuel economy, and with quiet and smoke free performance. The superb engine room insulation, soft motor mounts and a shaft saver coupler contribute to a surprisingly quiet interior salon while underway
