In the Pacific Northwest, Bracewell Boat Works needs little by way of introduction. They are highly experienced builders of commercial craft and robust yachts up to 80 feet. Today Bracewell Marine Group is a bustling service yard, busy with new construction, refits and all manner of repairs to both yachts and commercial vessels.
On the Keel Form hull: “(Vancouver naval architect) Bob Warman started with the standard semi- displacement hull design - displacement sections forward with planing sections aft - and then added full- displacement keel sections that floated about 25 % of the vessel's weight.
This keel allowed the engine to be placed lower in the boat, which lowered the centre of gravity and improved stability. It also allowed the shaft to be protected inside the vessel for most of its length. The engine, being lower int he boat, reduced the shaft's down angle, which improved drive-line efficiency and in turn, reduced fuel consumption". — Roger McAfee, Sea Magazine, October 2010
Discerning yachtsman will appreciated the build, and this Bracewell 41 is offered with a host of well thought out options resulting in a supremely reliable and comfort yacht as specified by the first owner.
Mystic Blue has always benefitted from caring ownership, and after five years with these current owners, she is ready again for a new chapter.
A sample of the options that make her a superb cruiser:
Mystic Blue is a traditional flush deck sedan design with open living spaces, two generous private staterooms, and a large flybridge.
Finishing throughout is stunningly beautiful cherry bulkheads and cabinetry with a teak sole and Corian counter surfaces
Board Mystic Blue from the swim platform to the cockpit, through the aft transom gate. From the cockpit, step up port or starboard to the side decks, to access the foredeck. Also from the cockpit are stairs up to the flybridge and boat deck.
Also from the cockpit, enter the aft door to the salon with settee to starboard, cabinetry and entertainment to port, storage throughout, galley forward to port and the helm to starboard opposite.
Down three steps forward to the accommodations area with two private staterooms and large shared head with well-sized shower stall.
Master Stateroom Forward
The master is located in the bow of the boat and uses this space surprisingly well. Large walk around queen berth and great storage in drawers and cedar-lined hanging lockers.
Guest Stateroom Port
The guest stateroom is located to the port side as you walk down the companionway. There is a full double sized berth for two with storage below.
The head is comfortably large for such a boat and features a separate shower stall
The salon and galley are integrated and are nicely proportioned. Large windows all around are perfectly positioned giving all on board, whether sitting or standing, views to the sea scape. All are opening and all have screens.
The galley is compact but still a great space with plenty of room to work. It is located forward of the salon and opposite the helm. There is lots of counter top space and the U-shaped design allows for an extra body to help out.
The lower helm is the operational centre of the yacht, with a clean array of large screens, and all necessary navigation and communication equipment at hand.
Accessed via the cockpit and an opening hatch.
Starting aft, where we board the boat: The swim step is well-sized, giving an immediate sense of safety. Through the transom door to the cockpit, which is covered by the extended boat deck above.
Steps up, both port and starboard from the cockpit, to side decks with good sized handrails leading to the large and secure forward deck.
The tender is located on the boat deck, aft of the flybridge enclosure. The tender chocks are removable, allowing the boat deck to be used for lounging or entertaining when the tender is deployed.
240/120VAC power is distributed through a circuit breaker protected panel with appropriate volt and Amp gauges, and a switch to select shore or ship power. AC power is provided by 240/120V50Amp shore connection, by a 5 kW diesel generator, by a 5 kW hydraulic cruising generator while underway, and, for lighter loads, by an inverter off the house bank of batteries.
12VDC power is distributed through a circuit breaker protected panels, with volt and Amp gauges. There are two banks of batteries; the house bank for onboard systems, and a dedicated start bank for engine and genset starting; both with dedicated charging systems.
Mystic Blue is powered by the Volvo D6, 435 hp turbo charged main engine, with common rail technology for quieter, more efficient, smoke-free operation. Approximately 850 hours.
