75' Converted Seiner

$200,000 CAD

Vancouver, BC

Snow Prince is a remarkable 75-foot Pacific Northwest motor yacht with a history stretching back nearly 90 years. Built in Vancouver in 1937 by Boeing Aircraft (Canada) Ltd. at its Coal Harbour shipyard, she was originally constructed as a heavy-duty commercial seine boat for the Nootka Packing and Fishing Co. Her traditional carvel cedar hull remains at the core of the vessel, complemented today by a welded aluminum deck and superstructure.

In 1945, Snow Prince was acquired by the Canadian Fishing Company (Canfisco) when it purchased the Nootka-Banfield Company. She subsequently spent more than half a century working for Canfisco on the British Columbia coast, fishing for salmon, herring and pilchards. During that career she evolved from a table seiner to a drum seiner and underwent several significant mechanical upgrades. She remained in active service with the Canfisco fleet until 1996. Conversion from commercial fishing vessel to private motor yacht began in 2000, with Snow Prince returning to service in her new configuration in 2005.

With a 19'4" beam, Snow Prince offers an extraordinary amount of interior volume. The main deck features a large, bright salon surrounded by oversized windows, a substantial galley and dining area, and a traditional pilothouse with excellent visibility. Below decks are four cabins including separate crew accommodation, four heads, two showers and dedicated laundry facilities.

Her commercial origins remain evident where they matter. A single 300 hp Caterpillar 3408TA drives a four-blade bronze propeller through a Twin Disc MG-518 reduction gear, while a 26-inch bow thruster assists with close-quarters handling. Twin 20 kW generators, large fuel and freshwater capacities and a spacious machinery room support extended cruising.

Exterior spaces are equally substantial, with wide walkaround decks, a large covered aft deck, expansive upper deck and dedicated tender handling equipment. An 18-foot Boston Whaler Guardian powered by a 60 hp Mercury four-stroke is carried aboard and handled by a 4,000 lb Tiger Crane.

Snow Prince has continued to benefit from professional maintenance by Canfisco and the attention of a full-time captain, an unusual level of ongoing care for a privately operated vessel of this vintage and pedigree.

Also included with the sale is Snow Prince’s 96-foot boat shed. The shed must be relocated by the purchaser.

Onboard Snow Prince

Stepping aboard Snow Prince, the first impression is one of immense space. Her wide side decks lead aft to a large covered cockpit that functions as an outdoor living area, with plenty of room for seating and entertaining while remaining well protected by the upper deck. From here, sliding doors open directly into the main salon, where large windows on both sides fill the room with natural light. The salon is unusually generous, with multiple seating areas, extensive wood joinery, hardwood flooring and built-in cabinetry, giving the space the feel of a comfortable waterfront home rather than a conventional yacht interior.

Moving forward, the main deck transitions into the full sized galley and dining area and then into the pilothouse. A large U-shaped settee surrounds the dining table, with abundant drawer and cabinet storage incorporated into the surrounding joinery.

The pilothouse retains a traditional character, centred around a large ship’s wheel and a substantial helm station, with excellent visibility forward and to either side. Port and starboard doors provide direct access to the exterior decks, while an interior stairway connects the pilothouse level with the accommodations below.

The lower deck is arranged around a wide central companionway and provides substantial private accommodation. The primary stateroom features a large berth, built-in desk and extensive storage, while one of the guest cabins is arranged with twin berths, its own desk and additional cabinetry. A second guest stateroom and separate crew quarters complete the four-cabin arrangement. There are four Sealand VacuFlush heads aboard, along with two showers, including a separate enclosed shower, and a dedicated laundry area with stacked Whirlpool washer and dryer.

Salon and Dining Area

The main salon is an exceptionally large and inviting living space, with broad windows running nearly the full length of both sides of the space. The windows provide excellent views and abundant natural light, while fitted Roman shades offer privacy when desired. Warm wood panelling, hardwood flooring, recessed overhead lighting and traditional wood trim carry the yacht’s classic interior character throughout.

The main seating area is furnished with three large leather sofas arranged around a substantial wood coffee table, providing comfortable seating for a sizable group without crowding the room. A large area rug defines the conversation area, while two upholstered lounge chairs create a second, more intimate seating area aft.

Built-in cabinetry and sideboards provide additional storage and serving space, with table lamps, artwork and occasional furnishings contributing to the comfortable residential atmosphere.

The salon’s considerable beam is especially apparent here. There is generous space between the seating areas and clear passage through the room, rather than the narrow circulation normally associated with yacht interiors. Large windows on both sides keep the space visually connected to the water, whether underway or at anchor.

At the forward end of the salon, a raised counter and service area provides a natural transition toward the galley and other main-deck spaces. Overall, the salon is one of Snow Prince’s defining features: a genuinely substantial living room aboard a cruising yacht.

Accommodations

Snow Prince’s accommodations are divided into separate forward and aft areas, an arrangement that provides excellent privacy between guests and the main living spaces. From the pilothouse, stairs lead down to the forward accommodation area, where a cabin with two berths is served by its own head. The separation from the aft staterooms makes this a particularly useful space for guests, additional crew or younger family members.

A second stairway aft of the salon leads to the principal accommodation area. The primary stateroom is generously proportioned, with a queen berth, extensive built-in cabinetry and drawer storage, a long desk/vanity and good floor space around the berth. Warm wood joinery continues throughout, while opening ports provide natural light and ventilation. The primary stateroom has its own three-piece ensuite. The aft accommodation area also includes a second guest stateroom arranged with two single berths, along with a built-in desk, drawers, storage and additional counter space. The original conversion specification provides for desks in both guest cabins and separate crew quarters.

In total, Snow Prince provides four cabins, comprising the primary stateroom, two guest cabins and separate crew quarters. The layout is particularly well suited to extended cruising, allowing owners, guests and crew to occupy distinct areas of the vessel rather than sharing a single accommodation corridor.

There are four Sealand VacuFlush heads and three showers aboard. The accommodation level also includes a dedicated laundry space with a stacked Whirlpool washer and dryer as well as a chest freezer.

Galley

The galley is arranged on the main deck forward of to the salon and dining area, making it well suited to both everyday use and entertaining. It continues Snow Prince’s traditional interior treatment with extensive wood cabinetry, generous counter space and the distinctive green work surfaces used throughout the vessel. A raised counter also provides a convenient serving area between the galley and salon.

The galley is unusually well equipped for extended cruising, with full-size domestic appliances and considerably more refrigeration and storage than is typical aboard a yacht.

  • Frigidaire four-burner range with oven
  • KitchenAid Superba refrigerator/freezer
  • General Electric microwave
  • Bosch dishwasher
  • KitchenAid trash compactor
  • Extensive built-in cabinetry and drawer storage
  • Generous preparation and serving surfaces
Pilothouse and Upper Helm

The pilothouse is a substantial working space with excellent visibility through large forward and side windows. A traditional ship’s wheel sits at the centre of the main helm, surrounded by engine instrumentation, navigation equipment and communications gear arranged across the wood-finished console. Port and starboard side doors provide immediate access to the exterior decks, while the adjacent dining area allows guests to remain close to the helm without crowding the operator.

Steering is hydraulic, with two control stations and Kobelt engine controls. The vessel is also equipped with a 26-inch bow thruster, ComNav rudder-angle indication and a ComNav 2001 autopilot with three remotes.
The upper command bridge provides a second helm position with excellent all-around visibility and direct access to the expansive upper deck. This open-air station is particularly useful for close-quarters maneuvering, docking and fair-weather cruising, while retaining control of the vessel from a much higher vantage point.

Navigation and communications equipment includes:

  • Furuno FR-7100 radar
  • Furuno FCV-293 echo sounder
  • Furuno GP-32 GPS
  • Nobeltec navigation software on desktop computer with 19" Acer monitor

Main Decks

Snow Prince has substantial exterior deck space, reflecting both her commercial origins and her conversion for private cruising. Wide walkaround side decks provide easy movement from bow to stern, protected by high bulwarks and railings and finished with varnished wood cap rails. The broad side decks also give excellent access for line handling and docking.

Aft, the main deck opens into a large covered cockpit, protected by the upper-deck overhang and fitted with overhead lighting. There is ample room here for loose seating and tables, making it a comfortable outdoor entertaining area with direct access through sliding doors into the salon. An exterior stairway leads from the aft deck to the upper level.

Forward, the deck remains very much a working part of the vessel, with generous space around the anchoring and mooring equipment. Ground tackle includes an approximately 350 lb stockless anchor, 3/4-inch stud-link galvanized chain and a heavy-duty Harrison & Robbins Series 132 hydraulic anchor winch with steel drum and capstan head.

The upper deck is exceptionally spacious, providing another large open-air area for seating, entertaining and enjoying the surroundings. It also incorporates the upper command bridge and the vessel's tender-handling equipment. A 4,000 lb Tiger Crane is installed for launching and retrieving the 18-foot Boston Whaler, while the open deck arrangement leaves substantial usable space even with the tender aboard.

Engine Room and Mechanical Systems

The machinery spaces aboard reflect her commercial heritage, with considerably more working room and service access than is typical aboard a yacht of this size. The main engine room is a large, stand-up space with aluminum diamond-plate decking, substantial access around the machinery and clearly routed mechanical and electrical systems. Snow Prince has continued to be professionally maintained by Canfisco and attended by a full-time captain.

Propulsion is provided by a Caterpillar 3408TA turbocharged V8 diesel producing 300 hp, driving a four-blade bronze propeller through a Twin Disc MG-518 reduction gear with a 2.94:1 ratio. The engine is keel cooled and uses a dry-stack exhaust with insulated wrapping and forced-air engine-room ventilation. A substantial 4-inch steel propeller shaft is fitted with a grounding brush. The Caterpillar 3408 was installed in 1988, and the vessel’s estimated operating speed is approximately 10 knots.

Electrical generation is provided by two 20 kW Stamford generator sets, each powered by a four-cylinder Kubota V2203 diesel. One generator is raw-water cooled through a heat exchanger and showed 5,244 hours at the time recorded; the second is keel cooled and showed 6,101 hours. Each generator has its own AGM 12-volt starting battery and dry-stack exhaust with insulated wrapping.

Steering is by a Wagner hydraulic system serving both the pilothouse and upper command bridge. The vessel is fitted with a spade rudder on a 3-inch stainless-steel rudder stock, Kobelt dual-lever engine controls and ComNav rudder-angle indicators at three locations. Close-quarters handling is assisted by a 26-inch, four-blade bow thruster with electronic single-lever control.

The fuel system is correspondingly substantial, with approximately 8,172 litres / 1,600 Imperial gallons carried in two painted-steel tanks located port and starboard in the engine compartment. Fuel filtration is through a dual Racor 751000MAX fuel/water separator system, with ball-valve shutoffs at the filters, emergency fuel shutoffs accessible from the upper deck and sight tubes at the tanks.

Boathouse

Also included with Snow Prince is her substantial purpose-built covered boathouse, constructed in 2005 by Crescent Beach Marina. The structure was designed specifically to accommodate a vessel of this size and provides exceptional protection from weather, UV exposure and debris. The boathouse is included with the sale but must be relocated by the purchaser.

The structure has an overall footprint of approximately 33' wide by 100' long and about 35' high, with an interior usable vessel area of approximately 90' x 23' and 24' of clear-span interior clearance. Five-foot walkways run along each side, expanding to approximately ten feet at the bow.

The floating structure uses large timber float boxes with substantial treated-lumber construction, galvanized steel corner and splice plates, tie-up eyes and multiple pile brackets. A later construction revision strengthened the perimeter framing around the float boxes specifically to improve support in the areas used for vessel tie-up cleats.

The enclosed building is framed with roof and wall trusses on 32-inch centres and finished with steel cladding. Sixteen 2' x 3' sliding side windows—eight per side—provide natural light and ventilation, while a remotely operated lower curtain allows the opening to be closed when required. A six-foot double-swing access opening and separate personnel access are also incorporated into the structure.

Electrical service is 200 amps, with provision for either a 100-amp shore-power connection or dual 50-amp connections. Interior lighting includes fluorescent fixtures running along both sides of the building together with dedicated workbench lighting and exterior floodlights. An 8-foot workbench, roof insulation and extensive perimeter walkways make the boathouse useful not simply for storage, but also for routine maintenance and servicing while Snow Prince remains under cover.

This is a significant addition to the package: a large, fully enclosed floating boathouse capable of providing Snow Prince with year-round covered storage, subject to the purchaser arranging a new moorage location and relocation of the structure.
