Kodiak is one of the most outstanding Grand Banks we have known. With three owners and a mere 2600 hours, she shows as pristine. Each owner has been equally meticulous in all aspects of yacht ownership, caring for this yacht to an exceptional standard.
Her owners have lavished thought and attention on this yacht. The first owner was a very experienced yacht owner and custom ordered the vessel, carefully selecting a long list of Grand Banks options, including twin, premium, Ford Sabre diesels. Subsequent owners have continued that tradition of careful stewardship, evaluating systems from the perspective of safety and dependability and improving and updating them as required.
The 36 Sedan is, like its cousin the 36 Europa, rare. Few were built, and the model proven very desirable.

We often rate boats by grading each area or aspect out of 10. The interior is immaculate, with covers made up to cover the horizontal teak and helm and fabric surfaces in the salon, protecting them from UV. The honey-gold teak is even and consistent throughout. The engine room is spotless, highlighted by the teal-green Sabres with chrome valve covers. The entire boat is a 10.
Other features:
The salon is entered through a sliding aft door and features built-in cabinetry on both sides. A settee is located to port, while two Grand Banks teak-and-upholstered chairs are positioned to starboard around a teak dining table with drop leaves and built-in storage for six wine glasses.
The starboard side of the salon has a dry bar, followed by the lower helm with a dedicated helm seat and direct access to the side deck. The spacious U-shaped galley is located forward to port.
A Kenwood 7-inch touchscreen stereo provides AM/FM/CD, Bluetooth and iPod connectivity and is paired with two overhead Kenwood speakers.
Large opening windows surround the salon, providing excellent natural light, ventilation and visibility.
The U-shaped galley is fully equipped and very well designed. There is abundant storage and counter space, and everything is within easy reach. Note the opening window and overhead fan for ventilation, the proximity to the helm for making coffee underway, and an arrangement whereby the chef is open to, yet separated from, the salon.
The companionway leads down and forward to the guest cabin to port, the head and separate shower stall to starboard, and the master V-berth cabin forward. Each cabin has opening portlights and an overhead aluminum-framed hatch with screen.
The guest cabin features double sliding pocket doors. When open, the cabin becomes part of the companionway and provides a comfortable lower berth. When closed, the doors create a private cabin with a hanging locker, drawers, a single lower berth and a second berth above.
The forward V-berth includes an insert to enlarge the sleeping area, along with drawers, lockers and hanging storage.
The head features a Corian countertop, VacuFlush freshwater toilet with tank-level gauge and control panel, Grohe faucet, and a separate shower stall with curtain, varnished teak grate and Grohe shower fixture.
The exterior gelcoat and teak decks remain in excellent condition. The first owner varnished the flybridge deck and had a fitted canvas cover made to protect the teak upper deck. The varnish was subsequently removed. The cockpit and side decks have been left natural to preserve the teak’s non-skid properties and have been carefully maintained. The window frames are in very good condition, and the exterior rails have been stripped, sanded and oiled.
The transom door provides easy boarding from the wide, extended swim platform and convenient access to the dinghy. Teak side-deck gates and a Grand Banks teak deck box, which also serves as a step, further improve access around the vessel.
The cockpit is equipped with hot and cold pressure-water shower, and a wired base for a Scotty electric downrigger. Both forward and aft 50-amp shore-power connections are provided.
The exterior features special-order bronze stanchions, teak handrails and varnished teak safety rails. Three aluminum deck hatches provide light and ventilation below. At the bow, a varnished king plank incorporates two bronze anchor rollers.
Ground tackle includes a Lofrans Tigres 12VDC windlass with up-and-down foot switches at the bow and remote controls at both helms. The primary CQR anchor is fitted with a swivel and 200 feet of chain, replaced in 2024.
Freshwater and saltwater washdown connections are located forward. A 600-foot stern line is stored on a reel.
The optional extended swim platform has additional teak slats and is fitted with a Grand Banks stainless-steel and teak swim ladder.
The canvas package includes rail covers, a sloped cockpit and transom cover, front window covers, a flybridge cowl cover and covers for the forward seating at the upper helm. The boat also has a full Lohmann winter cover.
The flybridge is spacious and well laid out, with comfortable seating, excellent storage and a fully equipped upper helm.
The vessel has well-organized 120VAC and 12VDC electrical systems with circuit-breaker protection and clearly labelled electrical panels.
120VAC power can be supplied from shore power, the Onan diesel generator, or the Xantrex inverter. Shore-power connections are conveniently located at both ends of the vessel, with a 50-amp connection forward and a 30-amp connection aft. The AC system includes volt and ammeter gauges, reverse-polarity indication and GFCI-protected receptacles.
The 12VDC system incorporates multiple battery banks, battery isolation switching, branch circuit breakers and fuses, and a DC voltmeter. The battery installation and portions of the DC electrical system have been updated.

The engine room is clean, well organized and provides good access for routine service. A forward hatch with ladder provides primary access, while an aft hatch provides access to the generator and holding-tank area.

The engine compartment, machinery and associated systems have been maintained to a high standard, with good access to filters, valves, pumps and other service points.
Kodiak is equipped with a comprehensive dual-station navigation and communications package centered around Furuno, ICOM and ComNav equipment. The current survey confirms the principal navigation electronics, including Furuno radar/GPS, ComNav autopilot, Autohelm instrumentation and dual ICOM VHF radios.
