West Bay created the 58 Raised Pilothouse design for our waters - and in the process set a standard of quality and structure equal to the best in the world in a yacht perfectly suited for the Pacific Northwest. Power Boat Guide states “modern pilothouse styling, luxurious accommodation, and sophisticated, world-class construction….87 were delivered…and she remains among the most highly regarded yachts in her size range ever produced.” Note that this 1999 vessel incorporates all the updates to the build for the 2000's models including, flush mount pilothouse windows, and athwartship tender storage.
The specifications help understand the volume of this spacious 58 foot yacht. The tip to tip measurement is 63’ 6” and the beam is 17’ 1.” The actual hull (less bow pulpit), is 59’ 6” while the model length of 58’ measuring the transom to the bow. Steps up from the cockpit allows for a stand up engine room. Similarly, the steps up to the generous side decks allows for a full beam master cabin, and the generally luxurious volume of the two guest cabins.
The exterior gelcoat is in fine condition, the deep shine maintained by regular wax and boathouse protection. The stainless steel fittings are solid, well bedded and finely welded. Note the optional staples on the swim platform. Windows are integral and tinted. The teak clad cockpit and swim platform are in fine condition.
The interior is original, and is immaculate - it instantly feels new. Joinery quality is exceptional - done in oak, stained a soft tan colour with a satin finish and gloss trim. Note the Corian countertops in the galley and heads, all with subtle sea rails. Neutral plush carpeting throughout with oak laminate planks in the pilothouse. Built-in furniture is comfortable, home like in the salon, and sumptuous in the accommodation area. All wall coverings are in textured vinyl with grass cloth, snakeskin or ostrich finishes. The storage incorporated into the build is amazing. Hanging lockers, drawers, cabinets, overhead lockers, under settees, in the corners behind the sofa - many purposed such as for the AV system and TV lift in the salon. There are deep dry spaces below deck in the accommodation area - ideal for cases of wine, and in the cockpit - with racks for fenders and hooks for tie lines. Note also the exterior cabinets - lid over the barbeque, lockers around the cockpit, a bait tank ideal for holding crab, and lift up lockers on the fore deck and under the flybridge settees. There is always a place to lose more that you can imagine!
Safety at sea is a large part of the thinking behind this yacht. A deep cockpit, robust transom doors, five heavy stainless steel staples in the swim platform, full and protected walk around side decks, port and starboard side deck access from the pilothouse, substantial hand rails and safety hand holds, non skid teak cockpit and swim platform cladding, molded non-skid on FRP traffic areas, exceptional sight lines from the main pilothouse helm, a U-shaped galley, curved corners on joinery, are all parts of the safety picture.
The galley in pilothouse layout creates a salon dedicated to lounging and entertainment. The open plan puts the functional areas - galley, dinette and helm - a few steps away, open to but separated from this lounge space. Surrounded by large windows and fitted with a comfortable U-shaped couch to port, a large glass coffee table and a Stressless recliner chair with foot stool to starboard. The entertainment centre and bar cabinet are forward on the starboard side. The TV lifts from the forward cabinet, and the audio visual hardware is located in the adjacent cabinet. An ice maker is hidden the bar cabinet, with bottle and glass storage. AC and DC breaker panel is conveniently located beside the salon door. The salon is 12’ by 12’, and feels spacious and light with 7’ of headroom, large windows, and open plan. In summer, a Phantom screen door serves well, and the cockpit overhang provides rain protection, allowing the salon double door to remain open and for pulling off wet gear. There is abundant overhead lighting, two table lamps, and window blinds, all adding to the luxurious feel.
A yacht galley should feel safe and efficient. A chef deserves room to create, bake and entertain, all with space to store the necessities of a voyage, and be surrounded in an elegant environment. Note the brand name appliances including the huge Sub Zero double-door fridge and freezer. Practical conveniences such as the dishwasher, trash compacter, microwave/convection oven, double sink with sink disposal all neatly incorporated into the elegant cabinetry and storage details throughout. Across to port is a raised L-shaped dinette that also doubles as pilothouse seating. The gas barbecue is set in the cockpit, beside the salon door, under the cockpit overhang.
Overall the pilothouse is the primary helm. Protected from weather and wind, secure in the Stidd helm seat, the raised pilothouse provides exceptional sight-lines through a five panel windshield and large side windows - even partially aft due to the open plan. The helm includes a fine array of navigation electronics, ideally set in perfect view. A generous chart table is to port, with two chart drawers and a chart lamp. The 7’ 8” headroom of the pilothouse adds immeasurably to the sense of light and space. Note that an additional set of engine controls are fitted into a locker port side of the cockpit, ideal for docking, rafting, handling a tow, or fishing.
Down and forward via a circular staircase is the three stateroom, two head accommodation area. The spacious master is aft, below the pilothouse and is full beam. It is a sumptuous space - a feeling of hushed excellence of cabinetry, brass details, rich fabrics and elegant design. The centreline, walk around queen berth is flanked by end tables and set against a mirrored bulkhead, subtly enlarging the space.
There are two large cedar lined closets, low cabinets to starboard, and and ensuite head to port. The port closet is a walk-in, and a second closet door reveals stacked washer and dryer units. Portlights add ventilation and natural light, and have screens and covers. The storage is amazing. Forward, starboard the entrance door, is a custom settee (also contains a safe!!), and opening two slide doors reveals the television and entertainment console.
The VIP cabin is forward, again featuring a centreline double berth, a built in TV, and abundant storage - note the mirrored cabinets high on either side of the cabin. The third cabin is to port, and is generous, with two bunks. The second head with seperate shower is too starboard and serves the VIP and third stateroom.
