One of Carver’s most popular models, the Carver 53 Voyager Pilothouse was a best seller in her class and continues to enjoy a strong following.
Check & Mate will compare well to much newer boats thanks to its forward thinking design and excellent condition. She has been the beneficiary of a long history of fussy ownership focused on upgrades and preventative maintenance, and the current owners have continued and refined that program. In regards her systems, operations and cosmetics, Check & Mate is always kept in top condition, and over their eight-year stewardship, and as a result of their attentiveness, these owners have had reliable uninterrupted enjoyment. Due to a growing family, the owners have purchased their next and larger boat thus making Check & Mate available to the next family to enjoy for years to come.
The owners are experienced boaters who enjoy spending time on the hook. Check & Mate is designed and outfitted with that self-sufficiency in mind with a large battery bank, ample tankage, and a water maker.
This Carver 530 Voyager Pilothouse is finished with a beautiful cherry wood interior, which is complemented by tasteful carpet, fabrics and furnishings. She has a sleek profile and all-season cruising capability thanks to great heat and air conditioning.
A roomy cockpit opens to the salon through a large sliding glass door. The interior is arranged with the galley adjacent to the salon, an excellent set up for casual entertaining.
Up two steps to the pilothouse with the inside helm, and wrap-around settee, and up from the pilothouse to the flybridge, upper helm station, and boat deck.
Down from the pilothouse to the accommodation area with three private cabins and two heads with shower stalls: The full beam owners’ cabin is mid-ship, VIP forward, and port cabin guest bunks.
There are numerous opening hatches and portlghts throughout the boat for natural light and fresh air. All have updated bug screens and all have privacy curtains or blinds.
Descend the steps to the accommodations with courtesy lights on the steps, a shelf to starboard, as well as a recessed art display case in the foyer. The owners’ cabin is mid ship, and is the full beam of the boat with a walk-around queen berth with side tables. Finished in ample varnished cherry, this is an elegant and comfortable space. The owners cabin also features a private ensuite head and shower with vanity and dressing area.
The owner’s head is to starboard of the stateroom and comprises a vanity, private head, just aft of the vanity, and a private shower cabinet with small bath tub just forward.
The VIP cabin is forward
The guest cabin is to port
The salon is full-beam offering lots of space with an open-concept to the galley. There are two updated plush leather settees port and starboard. To port is a power reclining love seat, and to starboard is the matching power reclining sofa. These were added by the current owners are are very comfortable!
The entire aft of the salon is taken up by huge glass sliding doors, which almost seamlessly extends the living space to the cockpit.
The galley is very well laid out for storage and workability, and is well-equipped. It is ready for the preparation of gourmet meals or just snacks. The aft counter bullnose is extended adding not just a great amount of extra counter space, but also allowed for additional refrigeration. The breakfast bar was also removed giving more room to the salon.
The pilothouse features a comfortable wraparound helm seat with all controls close at hand. A flush-mounted overhead panel houses all the necessary navigation and monitoring equipment. In proximity to the captains seat is a comfortable L-shaped lounge that allows the skipper and guests to enjoy the passage together and be more engaged with one another. Importantly, the pilothouse also has easy staircase access to the bridge, and a side door to starboard to the side deck and foredeck for better visibility, and quick dock access when docking, or to the foredeck when needed.
The flybridge is accessed via a gently sloped stair case from the pilothouse, or from a ladder in the cockpit. This is a roomy space that accommodates a double settee to starboard with storage beneath, a U-shaped lounge to port that can easily accommodate six adults.
The boat deck is just aft of the flybridge settee. It has been modified and reinforced to accommodate a larger tender. The custom framework for the cockpit enclosure below allows the tender stowage above to be slightly further aft, which gives much more room on the flybridge, improving the space and adding storage for water toys.
The tender is a 12’ Rendova with steering console and 2018 50 hp Tohatsu outboard. Top speed is approximately 65 km/h with a cruising speed of almost 50 km/h at 4,000 RPM. Tubing and skiing is no problem! This is a fun tender in great condition. It is kept in heated storage for seven months of the year.
Board the vessel via the swim platform and access the cockpit via the transom door. There are steps up port and starboard to the side decks.
The cockpit is fully enclosed with removable panels and custom framework allowing for the boat deck above to be extended - unique to this particular Carver 53. This is about 9 years old and all clear sections have been replaced, along with several wipers, snaps and stick cords, but it may be time for a refresh.
AC and DC power systems service the vessel through circuit breaker panels with appropriate voltage and ampere gauges. 110VAC is provided by 30 Amp or 50 Amp shore connection, by the generator, and, based on available house bank battery power, through the inverter.
This is a 50 Amp system but the vessel and guests can live nicely off 30 Amps if needed, allowing more flexibility while visiting almost any marina.
Motive power is by twin Volvo Penta TAMD122P inline 6 cylinder diesel engines, turbo charged and aftercooled, and rated at 610 hp each. These were an important upgrade from the standard 480 hp engines.
The engines are in top condition with low hours, and with this package, the boat performs very well: At 1,850 RPM, Check & Mate cruises at 20 knots even with full fuel, water, crew and gear. Max speed is 30 knots. The engines reportedly burn no oil and do not produce any smoke. 8.5 knots is achieved at 1,000 RPM for displacement speed cruising.
