Introduction

In the world of maritime excellence, Coastal Craft Yachts stand as a testament to craftsmanship, innovation, and the allure of coastal exploration. These exceptional vessels are fast and seaworthy, and the marque blends the artistry of yacht design with rugged functionality.

Each yacht is hand built with a focus on design, safety and strength. Coastal Craft claims to produce the highest quality, and finest finished aluminium boats in the industry — a claim that is easy to believe.

Perfect Pitch is a Coastal Craft 45 Flybridge that was custom built for this owner, their second Coastal Craft. She is a proven long distance voyaging yacht, having made three  trips to Alaska; one as far as Glacier Bay.

She has been outfitted with additional equipment for improved comfort, reliability, and self-sufficiency, as required on such remote adventures.

In addition, major updates were completed in 2020. These included:

  • New hull and deck paint
  • A complete suite of new Garmin instruments
  • E-Plex upgrade
  • Large bank of new lithium ion batteries, and upgraded charging systems
  • New cockpit canvas

These are significant and important items, yet they are but a small sample of Perfect Pitch’s featured options that make extended cruising aboard comfortable, reliable, and safe. Other notable highlights include:

  • IPS drives with Volvo joystick controls at four stations
  • Watermaker
  • Presto tender lift
  • Humphree Interceptor vessel trim and levelling system
  • Liferaft
  • Propspeed
  • Fuel polishing system

Perfect Pitch has been shed kept since new, and is the beneficiary of a meticulous ongoing care and maintenance program. She has top-shelf equipment, is in mint condition, recently surveyed as such, and will impress the most discerning purchasers.

Surveyor’s Comment

“This vessel, even after 14 years of service is in near Bristol condition, a very difficult rating to achieve… In short, nearly everything on this vessel is either like new, or has been upgraded beyond new.”

Exterior Hull and Decks

The cockpit is accessed by the swim platform, through the transom gate. It is spacious, safe and secure, yet intimate to the ocean around. The forward facing settee is nearly full width. The cockpit is an open deck can be equally enjoyed while fishing or lounging.

The swim platform is integral to the hull, increasing the waterline, for added buoyancy, and efficiency.

From the cockpit, walk forward port or starboard side decks (16” to 21” wide) to access the foredeck and bow. Here, crew safety is supported with a stainless railing from cockpit to bow pulpit, and stainless handrails along the whole cabin length. The stainless railings are properly isolated from dissimilar metals.

Perfect Pitch was faired and painted in 2020, and the Flag Blue Awlgrip hull is simply stunning, and nearly flawless with almost no signs of corrosion on the hull sides. The survey noted two very small “fingernail sized” areas of corrosion on the rub rail (not on the actual hull). Otherwise, he notes, the hull appears in as-new condition.

Similarly, the decks are free of any irregularities, cracking, or corrosion. The non-slip coating is as-new.

  • New (2020) fully enclosed cockpit with lexan windows on sliders
  • Port and starboard cockpit docking stations with Volvo activation switches and joystick controls
  • Maxwell RC-10 electric windlass, with three station control; at both helms, and foot switches on the foredeck

  • Protective rub rail along 1/3 the length the hull
  • Eight beefy aluminium cleats welded in place
  • Large scupper drains in cockpit

Construction is of heavy gauge aluminum, producing a deep V planing hull with hard chines and lifting strakes. The aluminum welding on every Coastal Craft is impeccably clean and smooth. There is zero corrosion on the hull bottom as noted in the August 2023 survey.

Engines and Mechanical Systems

Engine access is via a large hinged hatch in the floor of the cockpit.

Motive power is by two Volvo IPS 600 drives powered by two Volvo D-6 engines rated at 435 hp each. Current hours are 1,921 (port) and 1,881 (starboard). These are quiet, great performing, yet efficient engines with common rail technology, superchargers and aftercoolers.

  • Freeman hatch in swim platform to access drives
  • Volvo anode bars, to protect each drive pod, are properly isolated from the hull, and show minimal consumption at time of survey
  • Fuel gauge was recently calibrated and found to be very accurate, providing comfort on long voyages
  • Also, the Garmin system calculates fuel use and range
  • Presto Marine 500 hydraulic tender lift mounted on swim platform, with 1,000 lb capacity (500 per side). A powder coated tie bar was added to ensure synchronized lifting of each arm. The transom was professionally modified slightly to better support the Presto lift and maintain the usefulness of the swim platform.

Electrical Systems

120 VAC services the vessel by 50 Amp shorepower, or through the inverters. 12VDC is supplied through the large house battery bank. Both legs have appropriate fuses, breakers, voltmeters, and ammeters. Control and monitoring panels via the E-Plex system.

All house batteries upgraded to lithium ion, new in 2020, along with related charging systems. This battery bank provides almost five times the usable battery capacity of a normal AGM system, and twice that of a normal Lithium system

There are E-plex switch panels in each area that control systems in that area, plus a master panel accessed through an iPad docked at the lower helm.

The E-Plex system provides real time detailed information on power usage and remaining storage.

All wiring is very well organised, labelled, fastened, and chafe protected.

  • Two Lithium Iron Phosphate 600 Amp hour 8D batteries (1,200 Ah total)
  • This new set up eliminated the need of the generator, which was removed. The owner reports that Perfect Pitch can enjoy dependable power for over two days without the need of recharging (excluding the use of air conditioning)
  • When recharging is required, the two new 250 Amp auxiliary alternators provide a fast and sound charge, even at 700 RPM
  • Wakespeed Offshore WS 500 alternator regulators
  • Both 30 Amp and 50 Amp shore power inputs
  • One 3 kW Victron Multiplus inverter / charger to the 30 Amp system
  • Two 3 kW Victron Multiplus inverter / chargers to the 50 Amp system
