The Marlow-Hunter 40 is a modern, stylish cruising yacht with easy sail handling, nicely proportioned accommodations, and user-friendly sail controls. She is a well-built and finely finished yacht that is loaded with factory and local options.
Lotus is in mint condition with only 365 hours, and features the spacious two-stateroom / two head layout. She is offered by an experienced yachting couple, well-versed in outfitting, enjoying, and properly caring for such a yacht. One owner since new.
The owners, veteran ocean voyagers on their previous boats, took great care in the outfitting of Lotus, and the result is a well-thought-out, thoroughly equipped yacht ready for voyaging near and far.
A lead keel was specified for better performance, and lower maintenance. Other significant options include an upsized 54 hp engine, generator, water maker, reliable DC system with AGM batteries and solar panels, custom stern arch for dinghy, full cockpit enclosure, hydronic heat, Ultra anchor, complete Raymarine Hybrid Touch package with AIS, SSB radio, cruising chute, feathering prop…
Service has been regular, and is logged. Lotus is a stunning vessel that shows much younger than a 2014, and is worth a careful look. Premier Vancouver moorage is assumable.
Board direct to the cockpit via the opening in the transom, or via the side decks through lifeline gates. Shroud placement allows safe and easy transit from the cockpit to the side decks and foredeck.
Down steps to the sumptuous interior with master cabin aft, private head with shower to port, galley opposite. Salon midships with settees and nav station to port and large dinette with U-shaped settee to starboard. Guest cabin forward, with ensuite head and shower.
Lotus has the two cabin / two head layout. Each cabin is sufficiently large for a couple, and each have a private ensuite head with shower.
The private owners’ cabin is aft with access port and starboard of the companionway, through the head, or through the galley respectively. Headroom is the cabins and heads is 1.83 m (6’).
There are night stands to the berth, a shelf lining the outboard walls, and cabinetry and lockers port and starboard.
The private owners head is to port in this cabin, also with direct access from the salon.
The guest cabin is forward with a broad V-berth. Natural light and ventilation though two portlights, and one overhead hatch with screen and shade.
The private guest head is to starboard, with a basin with storage under, a manual Jabsco marine toilet with fold-down teak cover, and shower stall with teak grate flooring.
Descend from the cockpit to the salon and galley areas down six gently sloped stairs, rather than a steep ladder.
The dominant feature in the salon is the large dinette table to starboard, wrapped by a U-shaped settee with storage under. Along with the two seats to port, the salon / dining area can comfortably accommodate up to six guests.
The galley is to starboard at the foot of the companionway with plenty of refrigeration, broad working space, and tremendous storage in numerous lockers, drawers and shelves.
The nav table is to port across from the galley, and is forward facing. Storage in the opening table top, and under the nav station seat.
The large cockpit works well. The transom has a fold-down swim platform instead of a full-size scoop. A large solid cockpit table provides a strong brace point, and a drinks locker, and the bench seats have high, comfortable seat backs. The two cockpit lockers are easily accessible.
Going forward, the side decks and fore deck are clean and uncluttered, with all working lines routed aft to the cockpit.
All sail control lines are led aft to cockpit through sheet stoppers. This is a sloop rig with aluminium Selden spar, and boom, supported by 1 x 19 stainless steel standing rigging.
AC and DC power services the vessel through circuit breaker panels at the nav station
12VDC power is provided by the robust battery banks and 110VAC power is provided by either the 30 Amp shore connection, the generator, or for lighter loads, through the inverter.
House and engine batteries are charged via the engine’s alternator while under power, by the generator, or the shore power system while at a dock.
The engine space has very good access, from all sides. The optional 54 hp Yanmar diesel engine replaces the standard 40 hp model. At 2,000 RPM, the yacht will motor along at 6 knots or better, and flat out expect 8 knots. The feathering prop combined with the sail drive means minimal prop walk in reverse gear.
