The 47 Sea Ranger is a beautiful, sea worthy, and affordable twin engine, full keel trawler with a spacious two stateroom arrangement. She is a stout little ship with a warm homey interior.
The current owners purchased Sea Strider in 1991 and the new owners will benefit from this long history of proud ownership and professional care. Hand built in Taiwan by C&L Marine, the Sea Ranger compares well with similar vintage Grand Banks, Defever or Ocean Alexander.
Her sea kindly hull, efficient diesel power, and her pilothouse design makes a simply wonderful Pacific Northwest cruising yacht.
Enter Sea Strider from the aft deck to the salon, or through either port or starboard side deck doors to the pilothouse. The interior is finished in traditional teak, with abundant cabinetry, and a teak and holly sole. The headliners have been updated and the interior joinery is in very nice condition and belies the vintage of this yacht.
From the aft deck, the salon is first, and the galley is just forward and adjacent to the salon, with well-appointed storage lockers and bar opposite.
From the main level, go up four steps to the pilothouse, and from there, down gently curved steps to the accommodations where the owners’ cabin with ensuite head is midships, and the guest cabin, also with an ensuite head, is forward.
The engine room is accessed via a hatch in the salon floor, or through the aft door in the owners’ cabin.
Down from the pilothouse is a small foyer leading to the accommodations area. There are two cabins with the owners cabin midships, and the guest cabin forward.
Each cabin has an ensuite head.
The owner’s cabin has a very large (dimensions) berth, side tables, two hanging lockers, overhead lights, a reading lamp, and three deadlights. There are numerous storage lockers, drawers and shelves for storage including two hanging lockers.
The ensuite head is large and bright with a shower and mini tub.
The guest cabin forward also has a large island queen berth (dimensions) with a step up to each side so guests are not crawling up into a “V”. Storage in numerous drawers and lockers, and a shelf with four large baskets
Natural light and ventilation through three overhead opening hatches, and five dead lights.
The guest ensuite head is large and bright.
The salon is a warm and inviting space for relaxing or entertaining. There are two occasional chairs to starboard with a cabinet forward that can act as extended galley storage, and a dry bar with task lighting.
The entertainment cabinet is aft and to starboard.
To port is the traditional L-shaped settee with a hi-lo teak table with fold out leaves extending dining space. Storage under the settees
The salon table can be set down for coffee or cocktails, or set up with the leaves out to accommodate four diners comfortably.
Surrounding the salon are large opening windows for tons of natural light, and with roll shades for privacy.
The galley is forward and to port of the salon and is horseshoe-shaped. It is quite large with ample work space and abundant storage for extended cruising and entertaining.
Black Corian counter tops extended aft making a kitchen bar.
The pilothouse, up four steps from the salon. This design offers outstanding visibility for operator and guests and is the heart of the yacht while underway. It is a wonderful space with a large settee, a coffee table, a chart desk just left of the helm, and a pilot berth aft with windows to the aft deck. There are also numerous storage lockers and drawers.
The lower helm features full engine controls, instrumentation, and a good array of navigation and communication equipment for coastal cruising. Details follow. Here also is the electrical panel, chart storage, helm chair and beautiful teak wheel.
A stairway leads up to the flybridge, and side doors, port and starboard, lead to the side decks.
The command bridge is a wide open space great for relaxing, entertaining and al fresco dining. The upper helm station is on the centreline with an L-shaped settee to port. Access to and from the pilothouse s to starboard, with a sliding hatch, and protected with a stainless steel railing.
Aft of the command bridge, down two steps, is the boat deck. Here is the ladder to the cockpit, with sliding cover, and the tender. Plenty of room for other cruising toys and needs.
Hallmarks of this design are the covered aft deck, and the wide covered side decks. The high gunnels and railings provide additional security to crew, kids, and pets. The aft deck is fully enclosed for year-round comfort. Wide covered side decks are perfectly suited for BC cruising. There is a teak and stainless ladder up to the command bridge and boat deck.
The teak decks are in very good condition, with some exposed screw heads, but no evidence of moisture ingress, past or present.
AC and DC power services the vessel through circuit breakers. 110VAC provided by 30 Amp shore connection, by 4.5 kW genset, and, based on available house bank battery power, through the inverter.
At sea, the batteries are charged by engine or generator driven alternators and while at a dock, by the inverters and chargers via shorepower.
The engine room is well-lit, roomy, and nicely organized with good access to systems.
Motive power is by a pair of well maintained Volvo Penta TAMD 60 diesel engines with 2,670 hours on port and 2,990 hours starboard.
