This is a fine example of the supremely popular 4788. The pilothouse design is so well suited to cruising our waters with her superior visibility, enviable layout, and superb value. Boat house kept, and smart ownership results in a fine yacht in above average condition.
The cruising season is just around the corner, and she is ready to take you to your favourite destinations in comfort!
The Bayliner 4788 was and is a winning design. They feature a wonderful balance of living and accommodation spaces, a separate pilothouse, an inviting flybridge, and a generous foredeck and cockpit.
Board the vessel to the cockpit via the transom door from the swim platform. Enter via the sliding door to the salon; a large space, nearly full-beam, encompassing the galley.
Down four steps forward of the salon to the accommodations area with three cabins, two heads, laundry, and engine room access.
Up four steps from the salon to the pilothouse, and up again to the flybridge.
The master stateroom is forward with centreline (almost) queen berth, opening port lights, opening overhead hatch, direct and indirect lighting, reading lights, storage under berth, in two hanging lockers, and in several drawers and shelves.
The private ensuite head has a stall shower in a small tub, Vacuflush head, exhaist fan, basin, storage, and opening portlight.
There is a separate dressing area with a huge hanging locker, settee lounge, and storage drawers. This area can also be closed off and used as a private cabin with upper and lower bunks.
Moving aft towards the salon, on port, is the guest cabin, with double berth, hanging locker, storage cabinet, drawers, direct and indirect lighting, reading lights, and opening port light.
Opposite, across the hall is the guest / day head, with stall shower, exhaust fan, Vacuflush toilet, basin, and storage.
The salon is nearly full-beam:
The galley is to port, adjacent to the salon, and features all the appliances, working space and storage needed for the creative cook while cruising all summer!
Up four steps from the salon and galley is the pilothouse. The seat and console are on the centreline, with instruments, controls, and switches readily at hand.
The helmsperson can be joined by guests or watch mates in the settee which wraps the aft and port side of the pilothouse.
Port and starboard doors give access to the side decks and the foredeck. And give the helm superb visibility and a feeling of control when approaching a dock on either side.
The pilothouse design works so well because it affords the helm and the guests perfect views in almost every direction, whether enjoying the sea life, taking in the ocean vistas, or watching for logs!
Access to the flybridge is via stairs up from the pilothouse.
Up steps from the pilothouse, is the flybridge with the custom hard top and full enclosure.
The flybridge modification also involved moving the port settee aft about 18" to create a more comfortable and spacious seating area. This realignment also allows the rear enclosure windows to line right up with the settee backs.
This signature update is less than two years old.
The upper helm is slightly to port, with instruments, engine controls, and controls for the windlass and spotlight.
The settee aft of the helm seat can accommodate quite a crowd of guests. There is a drinks fridge, wet bar, more storage under the settees, and access to the tender.
There is also a ladder down to the cockpit from the boat deck.
We see most 4788 owners store their tender facing forward but this one faces aft for good reason: The tender is larger than normal, with the bow overhanging the cockpit. The extra weight is offset by the engine being set forward. This arrangement gives more room for crew around the boat deck, makes launching easier, since the tender will now face forward once launched, and adds safety by changing the weight distribution.
Board from the swim platform to the cockpit via an opening door. There is storage under the entire cockpit accessed via three large hatches. The genset is under the centre hatch, and batteries and systems are under the other two. There is still room for fishing gear, spares, cleaning supplies, and other gear as needed.
AC and DC power systems service the vessel through circuit breaker panels with appropriate voltage and ampere gauges. 110VAC is provided by two legs of 30 Amp shore connection, by the generator, and based on available house bank battery power, through the inverter.
Power is provided by the venerable twin Cummins 370 B Diamond series diesel engines, with just under 1,900 hours.
The engines are accessed via four removable hatches, two over each engine, in the salon floor. Main access is through the stairs leading from the galley to the accommodations.
