The one thing that we can be sure of in these uncertain times is that the seasons will change, the sun will get sleepy and head on down south !
So, lets’s make the most of autumn and the reminder she brings.
On the west coast of B.C. we can have fabulous fall weather and this year it looks like it’s settling in gently. All the more reason to keep on boating!
Andy Cross says it all in “Savor the Season” in the September issue of 48º North Magazine. He says before sailing off into the fall.
- Prepare for wind. Check winches and reefing lines. Know the procedure.
- Service your heater. Before it gets cold ! Say no more.
- Check your ground tackle. Anchor-winch and chain. Andy suggests you have a second anchor on board, that’s easy to deploy, just in case. To be safe.
And I say
Find a little nook somewhere close by. Drop the anchor and pick up a book.
And In between chapters check around for wear and tear and make a to-do list titled "Things to do before spring"
One of them being . . .
BBQ a piece of salmon drizzled in melyed butter and lemon juice and wrapped in foil (less mess) ! Quick to cook at medium temperature as the light slips slowly into slumber.
