GB Cruising Club of BC
A record 48 boats gathered in Telegraph Harbour on the weekend of Sept 19-21 for the Annual Fall Rendezvous, mc’d by Brian Kell. A broad range of boats was represented including the original 32,36,42 and 49 boat models as well as some newer 46 foot models and the latest 47 Heritage Classic model. There was a good number of the original “ woodie” models represented and it always a delight to see how these boats have been lovingly maintained. Participants gathered for the infamous appetizer contest on Friday evening where another outstanding array of goodies was presented for the group. Saturday kicked off with the traditional skippers meeting with an update, by David Hensel, Director of Brand and Marketing for Grand Banks, on the newest boat and happenings at Grand Banks. This was followed by a talk on boat electronics’, hull and teak cleaning, polishing and maintenance by Ken Harlos & Doug Higgins of Delta Marine Service the Authorized Grand Banks Service Centre. The group also enjoyed an excellent presentation on medical safety while boating by representatives of St. Johns Ambulance. The afternoon saw a repeat of the now annual dinghy golf competition. The day was capped by a fabulous dinner of roast pig, lamb and turkey with potluck dishes provided by the group. An auction of some generously donated prices together with a 50/50 draw finished the evening. All proceeds were donated to Variety the Children’s Charity in support of the Boat for Hope. Many thanks to all who attended & contributed. Eric Spurling, Commodore
